ISO 8601 is an international standard that contains recommendations for numeric date and time formats.
The goal of the ISO 8601 standard is to ensure a unique and reliable method of representing date and time formats, in order to avoid misrepresentation of numeric date and time formats that occur in communications between countries that have differently defined representation conventions.
ISO 8601 applies to the representation and format of dates in the Gregorian calendar, for times in the 24-hour system, time intervals and their combinations.
