X.509 is a standard that defines the electronic certificate record format.
X.509 certificates are used in various protocols, such as HTTPS/TLS, electronic signatures, time stamps, etc. The X.509 certificate contains the public key and information about the identity of the owner (computer name, name of organization or individual) and signed that it is authority (CA) or has a self-signed signature. When a certificate is signed by an authorized authority, it can be used for advanced electronic signature X.509 also defines a Certificate Revocation List (CRL) format).
