eIDAS regulation of the European Parliament and Council no. 910/2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions on the internal market.
The eIDAS regulation seeks to increase trust in electronic transactions in the internal market by providing a common basis for secure electronic interaction between citizens, businesses and public authorities, simpler and safer transactions and mutual recognition of electronic identification. In the field of e-identification, eIDAS determines the conditions under which member states recognize means of electronic identification of natural and legal persons from other member states, which enables interoperability and smooth operations. The regulation regulates six trust services: electronic signatures, electronic seals, electronic time stamps, electronic registered delivery services, qualified electronic signature storage services and services related to certificates for authentication of network addresses. In addition to the above, eIDAS also defines the legal framework for electronic documents.
