JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a compressed lossy image format derived from a bitmap.
The most commonly used format in normal work with images. Due to its modest memory requirements, it is suitable both for archiving and for exchange via IT networks or e-mails. Practically all programs and photo-equipment support this format and all allow conversion (so-called "export") of their formats to JPG. In rare cases (mostly vector-oriented programs), export to BMP is enabled, and any photo editor can convert this to JPG. When converting or saving an image in some photo editors, the user can choose the level of compression, looking for a compromise between preserving quality and memory requirements.
