UTF-8 (Unicode Transformation Format 8) is a way of writing code points in the Unicode standard using strings of 8-bit bytes.
The advantage of UTF-8 encoding is that it is "backwards" compatible with the 7-bit ASCII standard. The letters of most European and Middle Eastern scripts are coded with a maximum of 16 bits.
